As an experiment, I opted to build a scale model to test some ideas first. Scale is 3″=1′
The platform curve was matched to the curve of the sweep of the door.
I inter spaced support blocks to give the platform support more surface area.
The ladder constructed. This was very ‘over-engineered’ as it is the only freestanding component.
Layering and gluing up the curved safety rail.
In order to prevent the client from grabbing the safety rail to climb up I hand carved the ‘pommel’.
Molding the curved support.
The frame in place.
Getting the bed platform in place.
A view down the bed with the end rail in place.
Top down view of bed during installation.
The curved support in place.
The completed bed from the doorway. The room was tiny.
